Fire, earth, water, creativity, technical skill, and a little luck…

humble clay, transformed into stunning functional works of art

Crafted From Earth, Shaped By Artistry

Where it began:

Becky first discovered her love for pottery in an art class at Assumption High School, where her teacher, Ms. Wolf, helped unlock her creativity. Traditional classrooms often challenged her focus, but art gave her space to think freely and create in ways leveraging media that extended off the page. There, she learned foundational pottery techniques: hand-building, sculpting, carving, and throwing on the wheel; skills that would quietly shape her future. After high school, Becky went on to study education and graduated from the University of Kentucky after completing and earning her masters and PhD in the field of Instructional Design. It was soon after she entered the corporate world of learning, and after starting a family and having her three beautiful children, that her husband, Greg Combs, surprised her with a pottery wheel, reuniting her with clay nearly 20 years later.

How it’s Going:

Since 2017, in her spare time, Becky has returned to pottery with a renewed passion, creating functional art rooted in curiosity and exploration. While the wheel started out as a favorite, she now also enjoys hand-building and experimenting with different clay bodies. As a neurodivergent thinker and learner herself, she rarely makes the same piece twice, embracing experimentation over repetition. Reconnecting with her high school art teacher through social media because a meaningful full-circle moment; her former teacher helped Becky acquire her first kiln and continues to offer guidance and encouragement.

What Remains:

Becky is deeply grateful for a partner who not only recognized her creative spark but actively supported it. Through thoughtful surprises, a hand crafted kiln shed, and now a growing studio space, Greg’s support for her ability to embrace her artistic gifts continues. One day, she hopes to teach pottery, blending her love of art and education. For now, pottery remains a cherished creative outlet, balanced with the joyful chaos of raising three children and building a life rooted in support, growth, and creativity.
